Here at Noble Foundation we have a vision which is rather different from traditional lenders because we understand the realities of how difficult it can be to start a business in the Third World – particularly for women. Our goal is to provide small financial loans to deserving causes in order to help new businesses grow and flourish – and to help build communities. We are not about exploitation or making profits. We are about changing lives and proving opportunity. Let’s consider a real and simple example: if a loan is granted to buy a calf it is simply not practical to expect interest to be paid back monthly when there is no financial yield for several months. Although the banks might not recognise this fact - because generally making a profit is their prime objective - the Noble Foundation will not expect any payment until the business is up and running and generating a regular income.

And this is where the Noble Foundation difference comes into play: Let’s say we lend the money to buy a fishing rod. If the borrower knows how to fish then that’s fine. But if they do not then we first organise a “How to fish” training course. It’s only then that we lend them the money to buy the rod!

Then, as the fish are caught, they both feed the family and provide a few that are surplus that can be sold in order to generate income to repay the loan. Any additional income is theirs to keep. This is not ‘big money’ we are talking about but small manageable loans with the lowest possible rate of interest.

In other words we are in the business of constantly recycling the money we are given by our generous donors and doing everything we can to provide a realistic route out of poverty for our beneficiaries.
